In 1936, the Kilmar Mine began it’s operation! The “gold” on the White Rocks Estate land was the magnesite rocks! The mine operated from 1936 to 1981. The underground mine was at least 1200 feet deep!!! If you happen to follow the sign for Chalet 4 – “The Story Teller” (this is why he got his name!) and Chalet 5 – “The Rock”, upon going up the road, you can see the mine entrance about mid way, on your left. This is a great heritage that we have and don’t worry, the magnesite rock extraction is with no consequence whatsoever!

The mine was filled with water to make sure nobody will ever want to go underground to see what was there.
